Preserving Our Heritage

Alderbrook Farm is dedicated to preserving a way of life that is fast disappearing.  We strive to ensure that some of the older breeds and cultivars will be around for generations to come and that agricultural lands will be protected against encroaching urban development. My husband’s first ancestors were French Acadians who arrived here in Nova Scotia at Port Royal in 1668.  Now many generations later he has returned to the land of his ancestors to farm as they had many years before.

Alderbrook Farm is location in the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia, Canada.  The Annapolis Valley has been associated with agriculture and the Apple Blossom Festival for many, many years.  The area has been renowned for its development and contribution to the world in regards to the apple industry.  We are also the site of the Acadian Expulsion from Grand Pre in 1755 , the highest tides in the world and the fertile dyke lands that were built by the Acadian settlers in the 17th century.

We are presently breeding Highland Cattle, Canadian Horses, North Country Cheviots and a few cross breeds to give good high quality market carcass these include the North Country bred with Border Leicestershire, Arcott and Icelandic.  We have also started raising a variety of heritage chickens which include Chantecler, Light Sussex, Australorps, Rhode Island Reds, Barred Rock, Orpingtons and Marans.  For many years we have been dedicated to the breeding of Llewellin setters.
